My familiarity with the BACE-credentialed students is limited to those who are in the Bioscience Scholars Program, and it’s anecdotal, but with those caveats my observation is that students who complete the high school biotechnology academy program and receive the BACE credential are substantially more sophisticated in their understanding of biology concepts than their peers with similar high school GPAs. Perhaps not surprisingly, this is especially true of cell biology and genetics concepts, but it also seems to extend to evolutionary biology and physiology. The BACE-credentialed students are also much better prepared to begin participating in undergraduate research.
