> About:
Alan attended Crystal River High School’s Biomedical Health Academy, where he first learned about Biotility and the Biotechnology Aptitude and Competency Exam (BACE) credential. After high school graduation, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation from the University of Florida and then began working for the Scientist in Every Florida School program, teaching environmental education to K–12 students across Florida.
> BACE & Career Path:
The BACE had a significant impact on Alan’s life and led him to his current role, where he leads an environmental lab training students and teachers in techniques such as Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Electrophoresis. Through this work, he has been able to connect his biotechnology background with the environmental challenges facing Florida.
> Job Description:
Alan’s daily responsibilities include creating life science videos, hosting virtual visits, and leading professional development sessions. Over the past six months, he has impacted the lives of more than 4,000 students and teachers.
> Best Thing About The Job:
Alan feels the best part of his job is being able to introduce science to students who have not been previously exposed to it. He believes that once a student finds something they are passionate about, nothing will stop them.
