BACE Expands Access by Going Fully Digital

Writing Controlled Documents in a CGMP Environment Course

Biotility is pleased to announce that as of the 2025–2026 academic year, the Biotechnology Aptitude and Competency Exam (BACE) is now offered exclusively in a computer-based format. This transition enhances access to the comprehensive industry-recognized bioscience credentialing exam by removing geographic and physical barriers, integrating assistive technologies, and offering greater scheduling flexibility for exam sites.

Exam Integrity Remains

The integrity and rigor of the BACE remain unchanged. Since 2020, Biotility has offered a computer-based version of the exam, and most sites have already adopted this format. While the exam is delivered in a multiple-choice format, is designed to assess the real-world application of knowledge and skills. Questions are scenario-based and developed to ISO/IEC 17024 standards, ensuring they measure the application of biotechnology knowledge and skills in authentic contexts. Each item is crafted using a criterion-referenced approach to measure job-related competencies. Rigorous psychometric analyses confirm this format reliably assesses workplace readiness and critical thinking—not just recall. Psychometric analyses conducted annually ensure the exam’s validity and reliability, with pass rates comparable to the paper-based version.

Transition Widely Supported

This decision was supported by third-party studies confirming equivalent outcomes, widespread adoption of the digital format, and strong endorsement from our national industry advisory board. The exam continues to be grounded in a robust set of competencies developed in collaboration with biotechnology employers and workforce partners, preparing credential earners for technician-level roles.
