Course Description

This course describes the primary goals of federal laws governing impacts to the environment including impacts to air, surface and groundwater, wetlands and ecological resources.  In addition, it describes the laws that govern the onsite management of hazardous materials and wastes.

Following the high-level description of each law, the course explains how the law is implemented using various regulatory strategies.  The role of the EPA, states and tribes in these strategies is explained, for example, what federal or state agencies are responsible for issuing permits and enforcing the regulations.  The ways that these regulations can affect a biotech firm is highlighted throughout the course.
